SUMMARY:William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream Auditions
DESCRIPTION:Children’s Theatre of Annapolis What is Expected When You Audition? \nA Midsummer Night’s Dream Audition Dates: Sat\, Oct 7\, 2023 at 10 a.m.-2 p.m.\, Sun\, Oct 8 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Callbacks: Mon\, Oct 9 6-9 p.m. Age requirements: CTA makes every attempt to provide a fair and equal audition opportunity for all actors ages 12-18 (as of the audition date; must not have graduated from high school). \nNo experience is required and selection is made entirely by the artistic staff and based solely on the performance that each auditioner presents on the day of auditions. Actors are cast based on their ability and suitability for the parts. \nAuditions: Auditions are held at Children’s Theatre of Annapolis\, 1661 Bay Head Road\, Annapolis\, MD 21409. Actors should only come to one day of auditions. Actors should come at the beginning of the audition with completed audition registration forms. The forms are available here and at the audition. Audition forms require a parental signature before an actor can be cast in a show. \nAt the auditions\, actors will be asked to perform a 1-2 minute Shakespeare monologue\, participate in theatre exercises\, and readings from the script. Please wear attire appropriate for movement. Dance shoes\, character shoes\, and sneakers are acceptable\, but NO open-toed shoes\, flip-flops\, crocs\, or bare feet are allowed. Shakespeare monologue: Please come to the audition with a 1-2 minute monologue from a Shakespearean play. This monologue does not have to be memorized\, but the actor should be comfortable performing it. If you can come with it memorized\, then that would be fantastic!! \nCallbacks: Some actors auditioning will be asked to return for a “callback\,” that is\, a second look. The called back actors may be asked to do more extensive acting than in the first phase of auditions. Please remember that an actor may still be cast even if not called back\, and an actor may be called back but still not cast. \nTime commitment: Participating in this production is a HUGE time commitment. Be sure you are prepared to commit to all rehearsals and mandatory dates before you audition. You will be asked to submit a list of all possible conflicts at the audition. If you have a definite conflict with any mandatory or tech rehearsal\, you should not audition. \nFor the parent of cast members\, there is also a time commitment. As CTA is an all-volunteer organization\, we rely upon parents to provide the much-needed support to make each production a success. A parent meeting will be held after the cast is selected where all job descriptions will be presented. Each parent is required to attend meetings\, volunteer time to the production\, and ensure that their child arrives at rehearsal prepared. This is a commitment each parent must make in supporting their child in the production. Please be sure you\, as a parent\, are also aware of the commitment to the production before your child auditions. Theatre is a cooperative effort and every part of the team is essential! \nImportant Dates Actors must be at all highlighted days Auditions: Sat\, Oct 7 10 a.m.-2 p.m.\, Sun\, Oct 8 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Callbacks: Mon\, Oct 9 6-9 p.m. Rehearsals: Nov 12th (Tues/Thurs/Sun) *Fall Break Nov 19-26*Winter Break: Dec 25-Jan 1* Tech Week: Jan 28th (Sunday) – Feb 1st (Thursday) Performances: Feb 2 – 18 (president’s day Feb 19) School Performance: Feb 15\, 2024 9:30am. \nClick here to sign up to audition. \nClick here for the audition form. \n
