Meet the cast of Beauty and the Beast, playing at Children's Theatre of Annapolis from January 12-28, 2018!
Madison Sokolowski is a 16-year-old junior at Broadneck High School from Annapolis. She plays Babette.
What do you love about your character?
Babette is fun and high energy, which is a good match for my personality. In the beginning, trying to learn the French accent was a little challenging because I kept doing an British accent.
Why did you want to be involved in this production?
I have been doing theatre for seven years. I love any opportunity to sing and dance. Musicals are my favorite.
What is your favorite song in the show?
My favorite song in the show is "Human Again" because it’s a celebration of life. It is also my favorite because there is a lot of dancing and I enjoy dancing.
If you could play any other character in the show, who would it be?
When I auditioned for the show, I really wanted to be Babette, so I was super excited when I was cast as her. If I had to choose, I would love to play a wolf because of the dancing. Audiences are going to enjoy the wolf scene. It has some creative choreography and tricks.
What's your favorite thing about playing your character?
My favorite part about playing Babette would be the dancing. I am a dancer and love feeling the music through my body.
What do you do when you are not doing theatre?
I am a junior in high school, so when I’m not at the theatre, I am doing homework.
When did you first perform on stage?
I first performed on CTA’s stage when I was 9 years old. I was in one of their workshops and we performed Doo-Wop Wed-Widing Hood. I fell in love with performing and immediately auditioned for CTA’s main stage production of Alice in Wonderland. I have been doing shows with CTA ever since. Beauty and the Beast is my 13th show at CTA.
What is your favorite stage show outside of this show and why?
My favorite stage show so far has been Shrek the Musical because of all the different fairytale characters. Typical fairytale and Disney Princesses are beautiful and sweet. They wait to be swept off their feet and taken care of by a prince. In Shrek, I love that Princess Fiona is a strong independent woman who doesn’t need a man to take care of her. She takes charge of her own destiny. Shrek also teaches great life lessons, like don’t judge on appearances, being different is awesome and something to be proud about, and imperfect people deserve happy endings, too. Not to mention, the show is hilarious and the music amazing!!
