February 2020 Letter from the President

Opening night for The Hobbit is just days away, and there's a feeling of excitement (and maybe a little bit of panic) in the air at Children's Theatre of Annapolis. Tomorrow begins "Tech Week," which — for those of you who haven't been involved in theatre in the past — is a period of intense rehearsals that include all the technical elements of a production, including costumes, makeup, lighting, sound, props and so on. It's really when the whole production comes together, but it's a little bit exhausting for all of those involved.

And, yet, when the show opens on Friday, February 7, the audience members won't be able to see any of that exhaustion. Thanks to the talents of the cast and crew, the audience will simply be immerse in the world of Middle Earth as they watch Bilbo Baggins, Gandalf and a band of dwarves go on a magical quest. I hope you have your tickets!

Another bit of exciting news: Thanks to the generosity of The Treehouse Camp, CTA is hosting a raffle for a weekend away at a Hobbit House that's right here in Maryland. Yes, a Hobbit House! Located just 90 minutes northwest of Annapolis (and 15 minutes north of Harper's Ferry), this incredible property sleeps up to four people.

The raffle runs from RIGHT NOW to the end of production on Sunday, February 16, and the winner will be chosen on Monday, March 17. Tickets, which cost $5 for one and $9 for two, can be purchased when you come to see the show or online through Ticketleap.

CTA sincerely thanks The Treehouse Camp for its generous donation, which has made this production of The Hobbit all the more exciting. I can't wait for opening night — see you there!
