COVID-19 Planning and Status of CTA’s Programming (Updated May 17)
Update 11:50 a.m. March 17: Children’s Theatre of Annapolis is committed to the safety of its performers, volunteers and staff. In light of health recommendations to limit gatherings to no more than 10 people, the CTA board of directors has made the difficult decision to temporarily suspend all programming, including its production of “Disney's Frozen JR.” and all educational classes and workshops.
If you are registered for a class or workshop during the months of March and April, a member of our education program will be in touch. If you have purchased tickets for “Disney's Frozen JR.” please hold onto them at this time. CTA is exploring options to reschedule the performances.
Out of an abundance of caution, CTA has moved to remote operations for the time being. If you have questions, please email firstname.lastname@example.org, and a staff member or volunteer will get back to you. Thank you for your patience and your continued support. Stay safe and take care.
Update 5:30 p.m. March 12: In light of the state's decision to close public schools, CTA is suspending rehearsals for "Frozen JR." and all workshops at least through Thursday, March 19. We will continue to monitor and evaluate the situation and inform our community when new decisions have been made regarding CTA programming.
Original Post: Children’s Theatre of Annapolis’ first and foremost priority is the health and safety of its community. We aim to remain focused on the facts about COVID-19 and how to prevent the spread of the illness. In a time of universal uncertainty, we take the safety and health of our community and staff very seriously. We urge everyone to follow the guidelines and protocols put forth by public health officials.
In light of the uncertainty, we have announcements regarding upcoming CTA programming:
CTA Annual Fundraiser
After careful deliberation by the CTA Executive Board of Directors, we have decided to cancel our CTA Annual Fundraiser, originally scheduled to be held on April 4, 2020. For refunds on tickets, please contact CTA Executive Director April Forrer at 410-757-2281 or email@example.com for a full refund.
Stage Floor Campaign
CTA relies on its annual fundraiser as a significant portion of its fiscal year budget. The loss of this yearly income will be a hardship, particularly in light of important renovations to the theatre that have already been scheduled to take place.
The most imminent project is the replacement and upgrade of the stage floor, which is a decade old. Our secondary goal is to build a custom-designed orchestra pit for ultimate safety for every show.
The loss of monies raised through the annual fundraiser presents a hardship to CTA, which is why we are launching a fundraising campaign to raise money for the replacing of the stage floor. Please consider giving to this campaign via GoFundMe.
“Frozen, JR.” and Education
While we are now aware of the first confirmed case of COVID-19 in Anne Arundel County, we do not have any indication that CTA’s production schedule or educational programming may be disrupted. As of March 12, 2020, rehearsals for “Frozen, JR.” are continuing, and performances are still scheduled to take place from April 24-May 10, 2020. All educational programming is also continuing as scheduled.
We are closely watching the reports out of the CDC and the State of Maryland, and we are following the CDC’s recommendations for cleaning surfaces and hand washing. All actors and staff who enter the CTA’s theater are required to wash their hands for at least 30 seconds before more contact is made with others.
CTA’s Board of Directors realizes that the situation surrounding COVID-19 is changing on a daily basis. If circumstances require changes to the performance schedule for “Frozen, JR.” we will be sure to communicate the plans quickly.
At this time, if your child is not ill, there is no reason for parents to keep their children away from activities at CTA. However, if a child exhibits a fever or other symptoms while at CTA, staff will require parents/guardians to pick up their student immediately and will be asked about their recent travel, including whether they or someone in their family has traveled to an impacted country (currently designated as China, Iran, Italy and South Korea). Once your student no longer exhibits signs of a fever (100 degrees Fahrenheit or higher) and has been fever-free for 24 hours without medication, they are welcome to return to CTA.
We will continue to post updates and any changes to our mainstage productions, fundraiser or education program on our website and social media channels. Please contact April Forrer of CTA at firstname.lastname@example.org or 410-757-2281 if you have any additional questions.
Thank you for your patience, flexibility and understanding as we navigate this challenge together.
