2020-2021 Season Update

July 17, 2020

Dear CTA family,

It’s been four months since Children’s Theatre of Annapolis closed its doors due to the COVID-19, and the Board of Directors and CTA staff are missing the energy that the performers, students and volunteers bring to the organization.

Over the past few months, the CTA Board has been meeting regularly and discussing multiple options for the upcoming season. As you might expect, our “Plan B” has quickly turned into a “Plan C,” and then a “Plan D,” due to the rapidly changing landscape. While none of us are sure what the upcoming months will hold, we know that it is time once again to make some difficult decisions about CTA’s programming.

The health and safety of everyone involved with CTA is our first and foremost priority. Therefore, as of July 16, the CTA Board of Directors have decided that:

  • “The Addams Family,” originally scheduled for November 6-22, 2020, will be postponed until February 19-March 7, 2021. Auditions dates will be announced at a later time.

  • “Robin Hood,” originally scheduled for February 19-28, 2021, may be offered as an educational workshop opportunity in Fall 2020 if it’s deemed safe enough to do so. Please check back at a later date for additional details.

  • “Disney’s Frozen Jr.,” which was supposed to be performed in May 2020, has been slotted for May 7-23, 2021. Performers who were cast in the show previously will be contacted by a producer to discuss participation. CTA may hold additional auditions if there is a need to add cast members.

  • “Annie,” scheduled for May 7-16, 2021, will be postponed until the 2021-2022 season.

At this time, CTA has not made decisions as to when live educational opportunities will resume. Virtual theatre arts education continues to be available; see details online at https://www.childrenstheatreofannapolis.org/education.

When CTA does reopen, rest assured that safety will be paramount. With the help of a grant from Anne Arundel County, we have started investing in equipment and supplies that will ensure that the theatre is clean and safe.

Thank you for your continued support of Children’s Theatre of Annapolis. We look forward to welcoming you back into our theatre in the future!

Kelsey Casselbury, president, and the CTA Board of Directors
