SUMMER CAMPS

Summer camp programs at CTA give each participant the opportunity to learn the basics of theatre, expand their imagination, develop voice, dance and performance techniques, and much more. All training, workshops and camps are aimed to specific age and skill groups.

Note: CTA is committed to making theatre education available to all, regardless of income status. If tuition poses a financial hardship, scholarships and payment plans are available. For a payment plan or scholarship information, please reach out to executive director April Forrer at aprilforrer@childrenstheatreofannapolis.org. Queries will be kept confidential.

Due to current COVID-19 restrictions and your responses to our customer survey, Children's Theatre of Annapolis has opted to take summer camps virtual this year. Although we will miss seeing everyone in person, we are excited to offer a new way of learning and making theater magic together!

Students will attend online classes taught in a group setting Monday-Friday for the duration of each camp. (See descriptions below for times.) They will also have daily activities to keep them busy after the online class. To add to the fun of this learning experience we have a few "spirit days" mixed in.

Parents and/or Students may be required to record their individual performance segments and submit the videos for editing purposes so that we can compile them for an online pre-recorded performance. Video recordings can be made using cell phones, i-pads/tablets, laptops, etc.

Your tuition includes:

  • Direction / instruction from a highly qualified artistic team

  • Production elements (example: script / lyrics, access to digital recording or rehearsal tracks)

  • Character Development Worksheet

  • Character Design Challenge (Students design hair & a costume on a worksheet for their character.)

  • Show Poster Design Challenge

  • Online pre-recorded performance shared on CTA's YouTube & social media channels.

  • And more!

In summer camps, teamwork is a major focus. All participants are guaranteed a role. We encourage students with all levels of experience to attend.

Mother Goose's Character Camp!

It's the last night of Mother Goose's Character Camp, and our Nursery Rhymers are eager to share what they've learned. Will Miss Muffet & the Spider be able to make amends after that whole curds-and-whey incident? Did Pussycat really go to London to visit the Queen, or was she covering up an afternoon snooze? It's okay to bring farm animals to school if it makes the children laugh & play, right? Right? Maybe not. Find out from the Nursery Rhymers as they sing all about important character lessons.

Pre-recorded online performances will be presented on the final day of each camp session.

Mirror, Mirror - A Virtual Fractured Fairy Tale

The Evil Queen wishes to be fairest of them all. But when her Magic Mirror informs her that it is Snow White who is most fair, the queen is livid!  When asked how to find the princess, her mirror mentions that Snow White has run away. The Evil Queen summons great magic in hopes of finding Snow White — she can now look through all mirrors throughout the kingdom. But there’s a catch...the magic also allows everyone else’s mirrors to show them what they most wish to see.

Best-selling fractured fairy tale playwright Brian D. Taylor creates storytelling magic with these magic mirrors, and it’s all written specifically for rehearsing and performing remotely! Rapunzel gets to talk with Prince Dashing, who’s outside of her tower, Beauty sees the Beast who has taken her father prisoner, and Cinderella, who just wants to dance at the ball, gets connected to her Fairy Godmother. And there’s plenty more fun!  All these stories are moving toward their happily ever afters while the Evil Queen is hunting down Snow White, and you can guess that one will have a happy ending, as well!

Pre-recorded online performance will be presented on Saturday, July 25.

NOTE: This is not a musical theatre production.

All I Really Need to Know I Learned by Being in a Bad Murder Mystery

Follow along (if you dare) as our misguided performers attempt to nail down devilish British accents, understand what a red herring is, & figure out how to die onstage without looking all gross and stuff. Meanwhile, the director & stage manager, who really love dealing with the egomaniacs & lunatics in the cast, wouldn't really try to murder someone during the murder mystery. Would they?! Chaos rules the day as time is running out for cast & crew to sort out this mess. Safe to say, you will never look at a whodunit the same way again as All I Really Need to Know I Learned by Being in a Bad Murder Mystery brings up the curtain on bad accents, murder and laughs.

Pre-recorded online performance will be presented on Saturday, August 15.

NOTE: This is not a musical theatre production.
